Why Should I Take L-Arginine?

The come-back of a classic! L-arginine has been around for as long as blood flow boosting supplements have been around. It’s taken a backseat here and there to the novel nitric oxide boosters that have flooded the body building market over the past decade, but after all of these years, it is still an in demand supplement! In fact, we have heard from lots of people that L-arginine is actually their favorite blood flow boosting supplement. So, if you are looking for a classic nitric oxide and blood flow booster, that even has some unique immune boosting properties, then L-arginine is for you!*

The one issue with most L-arginine on the market though, is that it is derived from animal origins, leaving vegans and vegetarians high and dry! We wanted to change this, and sought out a fully vegan fermented L-arginine. So, with this L-arginine offering, we present a vegan friendly L-arginine that can be enjoyed by everyone!*

What is L-Arginine?

L-arginine is a unique amino acid, found in our diet, and continuously synthesized by our bodies. It’s very important for our cardiovascular system, because it plays an important role in vasodilation, thereby having an effect on blood flow. The manner by which it does this, is to act as a precursor for the gaseous neurotransmitter, nitric oxide. L-arginine is used by a collection of enzymes referred to as nitric oxide synthase (NOS), as a nitrogen source, which is then combined with oxygen by NOS to generate nitric oxide. This reaction then also yields another amino acid, L-citrulline, which, as can be seen below, is practically the same in chemical structure minus the nitrogen.

Figure 1. The minor difference in structure between L-arginine and L-citrulline

Unsurprisingly then, L-citrulline can also readily be converted back to L-arginine mostly via the urea cycle!

Once nitric oxide has been formed from L-arginine, it can activate an enzyme called guanylate cyclase. Once guanylate cyclase has been activated by nitric oxide, it can generate cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) from guanosine triphosphate (GTP). It is then ultimately the cGMP which causes the smooth muscle cells in our blood vessels to relax, and this is what produces the vasodilatory effects associated with nitric oxide!

L-Arginine Benefits & Uses

    • Boosts nitric oxide levels*
    • Promotes blood flow*
    • Promotes immune function*

The Original Nitric Oxide Booster

In a sea of nitric oxide boosters, it can sometimes be hard to remember where it all started. There are two distinct ways in which we can generate nitric oxide. The first of which is by utilizing nitric oxide synthase (NOS) to pull a nitrogen from L-arginine in order to combine it with oxygen, to form nitric oxide. The second pathway is via dietary nitrate, where nitrate is reduced to form nitric oxide. Over the years, a lot of novel strategies have been devised around these two basic pathways in order to make this process as efficient as possible. This has yielded some truly innovative nitric oxide boosters, which have seen lots of success in the bodybuilding world. After all, who doesn’t want to experience that delightful pump Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke so highly of? However, that has led to one of the original, and perhaps most important nitric oxide boosters, L-arginine, to be just a distant memory of the old school bodybuilding days.

It took us a long time to release L-arginine, mostly because we have also been wrapped up in the world of novel nitric oxide boosters. However, we kept picking up little conversations here and there on reddit, indicating that for some people, L-arginine, even after all of these years, was still their favorite nitric oxide booster! Most interestingly, after recent major world events, research on L-arginine has picked up considerably, showing that L-arginine has some very interesting effects on immune function.* This especially pertains to its ability to aid recovery and boost vitality.* Furthermore, L-arginine also has some interesting effects on metabolic function!* Overall, it seemed like a no-brainer to release L-arginine. Yes, it may not be the sexiest nitric oxide booster around, but it seems to work quite well for lots of people, and has been in use for a very long time as a supplement!*

L-Arginine Stacks

Nitric Oxide Stack: L-Arginine + Resveratrol Capsules

Resveratrol has long been heralded as an excellent blood flow enhancing supplement, and this is in part due to its ability to upregulate endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) levels and activity. This is the enzyme by which L-arginine is turned into nitric oxide in endothelial cells, and thus is important for its vasodilatory effects. Resveratrol also appears to protect L-arginine from oxidation, thereby enhancing the bioavailability of L-arginine. Thus, together, L-arginine and resveratrol make a fantastic pair for optimizing nitric oxide production!*

Blood Flow Stack: L-Arginine + Horny Goat Weed Capsules

Horny goat weed is quite famous for its blood flow enhancing effects, which it pulls off by inhibiting the PDE-5 enzyme. The PDE-5 enzyme degrades a downstream product of nitric oxide, called cGMP, which is ultimately responsible for the blood flow enhancing effects of nitric oxide. Thus, when horny goat weed is taken alongside L-arginine, it can help strengthen and prolong the blood flow inducing effects of L-arginine!*

Immune Function Stack: L-Arginine + Infini-C Capsules

Recent research has shown that L-arginine and vitamin C appear to have quite a synergistic effect on immune function. This of course comes as no surprise, considering that as a standalone, both vitamin C and L-arginine have pronounced immune modulating effects! However, when the two are taken together, they seem to particularly enhance recovery and vitality. This is a good stack to have on hand in the context of long lasting effects on vitality, from recent world events!*

L-Arginine Dosage

As a dietary supplement, take two 750mg capsules of L-Arginine 1-2 times daily.

This is really clean arginine. Works great for NO effects by itself, but stacking with cirtuline is just next level.
