Why Should I Take Ginger and Acmella Phytosome?

Mitidol is a patented combination of ginger and acmella incorporated into a phytosome, both of which are powerful pain modulators. With high quality ingredients and multiple studies demonstrating mitidol’s effects, why would you miss out? Ginger & Acmella phytosome has been shown to be incredibly effective on the endocannabinoid system, especially as an agonist at CB2 receptors and as an inhibitor of fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH).

The effects of mitidol are quickly apparent, and we were immediately impressed by it when Indena gave us a sample to try. The effects kick in quickly and do a fantastic job at smoothing out pain quickly, this was especially apparent when it came to nerve pain. The mood effects are also quite pleasant, turning up that classic ginger mood boost with some of the wonderful endocannabinoid effects of the acmella!

What is Ginger & Acmella Phytosome?

Ginger & Acmella phytosome is made up of two high potency extracts of Zingiber officinale Roscoe (ginger) and Acmella oleracea L. but let’s take a second to learn more about these two ingredients.

Ginger is one of the most commonly used spices in the entire world and has been used in both traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic practices for centuries. Ginger contains many incredibly beneficial bioactives, such as the pungent gingerols, and shogaols. These compounds do a great job at modulating inflammation levels, while also helping to dampen stomach upsets, via their 5-HT3A antagonist effects.

Acmella oleracea comes from the Asteraceae family and has a long history of use as a topical pain management plant, thereby earning it the interesting name of the “toothache plant”. This is due to the fact that when you chew on acmella flower buds, the active compound spilanthol, produces a tingly numbing sensation via blockade of voltage gated sodium channels. This is in fact quite similar to sichuan peppers, which also produce a tingly numbing sensation. In fact, the active compound in acmella, spilanthol, is chemically very similar to the active compound in sichuan pepper, sanshool! Acmella also has very interesting endocannabinoid properties, acting as an agonist at cannabinoid CB2 receptors and inhibiting FAAH, an enzyme which breaks down endocannabinoids. Furthermore, spilanthol also exhibits prominent oxidation and inflammation regulating properties. Together with the inflammation regulating effects of ginger, this produces a robust pain management effect!

Another interesting thing to note about Acmella oleracea, is that it is a fairly hard plant to cultivate, and most of the acmella biomass on the market is of very low quality. This stimulated Indena (the makers of Mitidol) to invest in farm land in Sardinia, Italy, where they grow their own incredibly high quality acmella! Quite fascinating, as botanical extracts with European origins are exceptionally rare! To make things even more interesting, the two extracts in Mitidol are also incorporated into a phytosome, which greatly boosts their bioavailability!

Ginger & Acmella phytosome is standardized to 2.4% Gingerols & Shogaols and 0.3% Spilanthol.

Ginger & Acmella phytosome Benefits & Uses

    • Promotes pain management
    • Promotes balanced levels of oxidation and inflammation
    • Enhances mood

The Pain Management Power Couple

Ginger and Acmella have both been used (separately) for centuries for natural pain management. Indena then took these two ingredients to the 21st century, by combining them in a single product, in order to take advantage of their synergistic effects. To support these claims, a study was conducted to find out how ginger and Acmella are able to target pain so effectively. It was found that the pair worked through both a direct and indirect mechanism.

For direct interactions, mitidol activates the cannabinoid CB2 receptor. CB2 receptors are widespread throughout the body, and have a major regulatory role on pain and inflammation. With this in mind, activation of CB2 receptors with mitidol, produces a robust pain management effect! Indirectly, Ginger & Acmella phytosome blocks the fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down endocannabinoids like anandamide, 2-AG, and even palmitoylethanolamide. By blocking FAAH with mitidol, the levels of these endocannabinoids can increase, and because they are highly involved in pain processing, this produces significant pain management effects. This is especially the case when you consider the interplay of CB2 agonism and FAAH inhibition!

As for the regulation of inflammation and oxidative stress, there are several supporting factors. Gingerol contained in ginger has been shown to balance inflammation and oxidative stress. Shogaol, the other main constituent of ginger, is a biologically active compound that is also well-loved for its effectiveness in regulating inflammation levels and even promoting cellular function! The combination of the two is also thought to mitigate neuroinflammation. Acmella blocks inducible nitric oxide (iNOS) and regulates inflammatory cytokines and COX-2. When combining two powerful inflammation and oxidation regulators, Ginger & Acmella phytosome becomes an out of this world supplement!

Ginger & Acmella phytosome Stacks

Pain Management Stack: Ginger & Acmella phytosome + Supercritical CO2 Myrrh Extract Capsules

Myrrh’s pain management benefits can be directly credited to furanodienes. These two furanodienes, furaneudesma-1,3-diene and curzerene, activate the central opioid receptors in the brain. This dampens how the brain processes pain and even regulates inflammation! Combined with the endocannabinoid effects of mitidol, this produces a very robust pain management stack!

The Inflammation & Oxidation Stack: Ginger & Acmella phytosome + Curcumin Phytosome Capsules

In a similar way as Ginger & Acmella phytosome, Curcumin Phytosome regulates both inflammation and oxidation levels, although through slightly different pathways. When combined with Ginger & Acmella phytosome, they make for the perfect inflammation and oxidation stack!

The Mood Stack: Ginger & Acmella phytosome + Magnolia Bark Extract Tablets

A study found that Magnolia Bark’s mood effects are significantly benefited when taken in tandem with Ginger. Thus, combined with acmella’s mood boosting properties, ginger, acmella and magnolia bark extract make for a wonderful mood boosting trio!

Ginger & Acmella phytosome Dosage

As a dietary supplement, take one 350mg capsule of Ginger & Acmella phytosome 1-2 times daily.

    Interesting to try

Posted by Almonds on 17th Oct 2023

This did not work to reduce period pain but it did help my legs feel less sore after a workout that left me feeling inflamed. The effect doesn't last for long, however. It does also give a nice mood boost, though. I enjoyed trying it and will probably use it occasionally, not rlly in my daily stack.

    noticable pain relief

Posted by Mark on 10th Feb 2023

I bought this along with some other stuff for focus and energy, because I have always liked ginger, and for faah inhibition, as an ex420er. I have to say it has a pretty noticable pain relieving effect. Only reason I only gave 4 stars is price. I could easily take it 2-3 times a day, but obviously that won't work.
